Bellari Secures Home for Branchburg Sergeant
Home Remodeler Installs New Front Door at Officer’s Home as part of Emergency Repairs for Emergency Workers Initiative
(July 21, 2020 – BRANCHBURG, NJ) Bellari is supporting local police, nurses, doctors, and firefighters during the coronavirus pandemic by donating emergency repairs. The Somerset County home remodeling company offers its expertise to deserving folks working on the front lines – to give back by helping someone in the community who has been working hard to keep us safe, in healthcare or another essential job.
Bellari’s owners recently learned that Sergeant Tom Meola of the Branchburg Police Department was in need of a new front door at his home in Stewartsville.
Upon hearing that Sergeant Meola had recovered from his own bout with the COVID-19 virus, Bellari contacted the officer to see if there was anything they could help fix at home when he returned to work. As it turns out, Sergeant Meola purchased his home in Stewartsville with his wife, Jess, two years ago, and the front door was warped and getting increasingly difficult to lock.
“It has never closed right,” admits Meola. “But the door was getting so bad you really had to wrestle with it to get it locked. We just had our 2nd child, and I had been working some night shifts, so it was not giving me a great sense of security when my wife would be home with the kids alone overnight.”
“We had started pricing doors to get it replaced, and then the virus hit,” recalls Meola. “Our department started breaking up squads and putting officers in quarantine in shifts, and we were working overtime when we were on duty. And, despite the precautionary measures taken, it happened. I got the virus.”
Meola had four straight days of 103.6 fever, tested positive for COVID-19, and then spent 14 days in his guest room with no interaction with anyone, not even his family. Fortunately, he had no life threatening respiratory distress requiring hospitalization, and managed not to infect anyone else in his family.
“When I got the call from Gary Shiman at Bellari asking if there was anything they could do for me, I shared our saga about the front door,” said Meola. “Within the week Gary called back to let me know someone would be coming out to take care of it.”
Bellari donated the labor and are quick to acknowledge their vendor partner ProVia who kindly donated the door. The Meola family now has a stunning Signet Cherry Fiberglass Door with Coffee Bean stain and Chinchilla Privacy Glass. Beyond the door’s aesthetics, it is secure.
“We are thrilled with our new door,” said Meola. “It not only looks so much better than the weathered wood door we had previously, but you can no longer see sunlight at the top of the door, and it is easy to lock. Gary told me he saw these doors hit with a battering ram at the ProVia showroom. Apparently they are reinforced with an oversized steel kick plate, so no one is getting in.”
“Since we first moved our business to Branchburg, Sergeant Meola stopped in to introduce himself, serving as the local PBA union representative at the time, and has been checking in on us ever since,” said Bellari Co-Owner and Executive Vice President Gary Shiman. “He has always worked hard to help others in the community, and during the pandemic, even more so. We are honored to help with needed repairs at his home, to help take care of him.”
“We are grateful to all the men and women who choose to serve on the frontlines, protecting us day after day,” added ProVia Director of Corporate Relations Joe Klink. “They deserve our honor and respect.”
